What goes into the score

  • Yield Curve (12%). 10-year minus 2-year Treasury spread, a recession indicator.
  • Unemployment (10%). Labor market health.
  • Jobless Claims (10%). Weekly first-time unemployment filings.
  • Consumer Sentiment (8%). University of Michigan confidence survey.

The scale

  • Zen (80 to 100). Low volatility, healthy credit, strong labor market.
  • Calm (65 to 79). Normal conditions, no major red flags.
  • Cautious (50 to 64). Some indicators flashing yellow.
  • Nervous (35 to 49). Multiple warning signs.
  • Fearful (20 to 34). Broad stress across indicators.
  • Panic (0 to 19). Extreme conditions.
